Ridge Augmentation Can Enable Implant Placement

Dental implants are titanium posts or screws that are embedded in the jawbone. They act as a foundation for replacement teeth, improving strength, stability, and durability. However, dental implants require a strong and healthy jawbone.

Ridge Augmentation Can Enable Implant Placement

If you’ve experienced jawbone deterioration or other conditions or simply have a naturally smaller jawbone, you might not be a good candidate for dental implants.

Fortunately, ridge augmentation makes it possible for more patients to benefit from this tooth replacement procedure.

Your Ridge Augmentation Procedure

The team at Peninsula Dental Associates will carefully evaluate your jawbone to determine whether ridge augmentation is the right option. We are a dental practice with the latest technology, including digital X-rays and CBCT scans, which allows us to create a detailed and clear image of your jawbone.

If ridge augmentation is the right treatment for you, you’ll undergo a surgical bone graft. We will take bone tissue from another location and transplant it to the alveolar ridge of the jawbone. Once in place, the jawbone naturally integrates the new bone tissue to provide a strong foundation for dental implants.

Recovering After Ridge Augmentation

Ridge augmentation is a surgical procedure, so you can expect some recovery time. For the first few days after the surgery, you may experience soreness and swelling and will have to stick to a diet of soft foods. While your symptoms during recovery will fade over the course of about a week, it takes longer for the area to heal entirely. The new bone tissue takes several months to integrate.

This can extend the time it takes to get your dental implants, as they can only be placed once healing is complete. The Peninsula Dental Associates team aims to provide our patients with the widest range of treatment options. Ridge augmentation could be the procedure you need to take advantage of dental implants.
